In your criticisms of “American Christianity” are correct, but you are not alone even among those who do find a weekly visit to a church a useful thing. A few weeks back I enjoyed a sermon on how the church had no business telling me how to vote. It was based on the idea that the church is not on earth to ban homosexuality or encourage a Republican presidency, it is here to provide salvation, absolution, and comfort to sinners.
I found one, but it took a lot of looking.
Hi guys,
Great podcast! And thanks for answering my question in the podcast as well as in the comments. Appreciate your honesty!
Another stupid christian bookstore story is P.O.D.’s cd that got banned by from a whopping 85% of American christian bookstores (http://www.danielmartindiaz.com/pod.html) :-)

I dug this podcast. Thank you for posting a link to it here.
I have a number of friends who have families who have feelings very similar to yours about the “hypocrisy” of going to church for the “benefit” of their kids.
I can offer you a semi-ironic, yet well intentioned “amen” to some of your other comments. ;)

Hey, that’s wicked-cool. I have several friends who report that their church is generally pretty “on it” and this truthfully pleases me. :)
Something that I’ve found to be true in my experience is that the “hipper” churches, those whom I’d label as socially radical/progressive/liberal, turn out to be be theologically liberal as well. Socially liberal works for me, theologically liberal does not.
Either that, or they’re just hipper with the lipstick… there’s an electric guitar player who plays heavy metal leads, or they sit around coffeehouse-style and sip Americanos or something.
Yes, I overgeneralize… but I think I’m making the point. ;)
