Feedback, please! :)
by: Rev. DanI’m pretty excited about the fact that we’ve got Outchurched started back up. While I recognize that the audio quality is less-than-optimal, it’ll get better over time, as will the focus/content of the podcast. Feet are back on the ground and we’re pushing like Fred Flinstone. ;)
We’d appreciate any feedback you have on the new podcast, and look forward to getting a good conversation going. If you’d be interested in joining our “Weekly Service” via Skype (Service is scheduled for roughly 8pm Pacific) please let us know!
It’s about pushing the converversation beyond bitching… hopefully into something useful.
I enjoy the podcasts and I’m glad you guys are back at it. What’s with all the jokes about obvious sin — porn and drinking? That being said, I enjoy the swearing. Keep it up!
Porn and drinking are obvious sin? No way, I don’t buy it… they’re two of God’s best inventions, though they definitely lag behind drugs and premarital sex.
How can some of God’s best work possibly be sinful?
You caught me. Porn and being drunk are obvious sins. Drugs are iffy and what’s the definition of “sex” these days?
God’s best work isn’t the sin, but the abuse of his best work is.
My point is that if you are trying to come across as Christians making a mockery of abusing God’s best work probably doesn’t help your cause.
Incase you were wondering. I do get the fact that it’s a joke. I don’t think the joke is funny. Like I said, I enjoy the podcast and think you guys have some intelligent things to say.
My point is that if you are trying to come across as Christians making a mockery of abusing God’s best work probably doesn’t help your cause.
I’m not trying to come across as anything. I honestly want to be authentic to who I am and what I think and what I’m feeling. I don’t have a cause yet, that’s where we are headed…
I do get the fact that it’s a joke.
What joke are you referring to?
A-fucking-men. I have no idea “what I am” anymore… beyond pissed off that I have this embedded experience with Christianity that I can’t fucking shake.
I guess I sort of have a cause… that of “exorcising Jesus” (don’t fucking flame me on this one… I’ll explain this soon) and encouraging critical thinking… beyond that… clueless.
I honestly want to be authentic to who I am and what I think and what I’m feeling.
This is exactly why I think you’re a badass.
No, porn and drinking are your definitions of “obvious sins.” I’m not kidding about liking porn and alcohol, I do. We drink during the podcast, and I have no objections to it whatsoever. It’s no more the point of the podcast than breathing.
God’s best work isn’t the sin, but the abuse of his best work is.
I seem to recall that according to the Bible and christian dogma that God is the creator of all things.
“1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2) He was with God in the beginning. 3) Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:1-3 NIV
God, creator of the Earth.
God, creator of trees.
God, creator of porn.
God, creator of alcohol.
God, creator of cute fuzzy bunnies.
This is the stuff that almost puts me in the “I like God” camp. However, the self-righteous judgemental shit from small-minded “followers of Christ” is why church and the associated bullshit isn’t for me.
Thanks for weighing in as the definite source of where the line between use/abuse of porn/alcohol/Christianity is. Like any intelligent person likely would, I reject your assertion of authority.
My point is that if you are trying to come across as Christians making a mockery of abusing God’s best work probably doesn’t help your cause.
I don’t buy into the thinking that watching porn or drinking are “abusing God’s best work.” I think it’s your method of attempting to frame the conversation in a way that promotes your own view of things, which I view as being self-righteous.
Note to self: seek endorsements from Hustler and Maker’s Mark… especially Maker’s Mark.
In regards to the “trying to come across as Christians” bit:
Fuck you.
Whether or not I or anyone else conforms to your dogma matters absolutely less than a trifle to me. You are not God, nor are you His Voice, regardless of what self-righteous spiritual wheaties you may think you’ve been dieting upon. You don’t decide whether or not I’m “saved” (whatever the fuck that actually means) or “justified” or even “sanctified.” Again, fuck you for picking up the scepter of judgement and proclaiming your judgement forth.
Incase you were wondering. I do get the fact that it’s a joke. I don’t think the joke is funny.
What the fuck are you talking about? Are you asserting that our podcast/blog is a joke? How many times do I have to type “fuck you?”
I don’t give a shit if your sense of humor is so highly refined that you find us crass or offensive. We joke around on the podcast and venture into SarcasmLand periodically, but the three of us value discussing these topics and value having a sounding board with which to pose questions and thoughts. Our intent, from the beginning, was to do this publically so that those who are sympathetic to our thinking might stumble across it and think “fuck, I’m not alone in the world… there are other people willing to bulldoze their way into areas where the angels fear to tread.”
You’re obviously not in this demographic, so I’m a bit puzzled as to why you’d waste our (”if you’re here, and I’m here… isn’t it ‘our’ time”) time commenting. Perhaps you’d be “investing your talents” more wisely by doing something “productive” like handing out Chick Tracts or praying or reading the Bible.
Personally, I’d go drinking and jerk off to porn… I find that to be a more effective release.
That’s why you’re a badass, badass.
I like Dan Tripp.
What the fuck are you talking about? Are you asserting that our podcast/blog is a joke? How many times do I have to type “fuck you?”
You know what’s kind of amusing Dan, is that I came to read this thread when you guys were commenting on how things had gotten heated here–and you made a point of saying that you went away to cool down before you responded. I shudder to contemplate the unrestrained wrath of the Reverend.
In all seriousness, of course I agree with both you and McCormick. When the Americhurch comfort shell is poked, it bounces back with responses that ensure the shell can’t be breached. Like “I get that this is a joke.” But what, Mike my evangelical friend, if it isn’t a joke? What if we are all very serious? What if we had something to say that wasn’t just a product of a desire to chase after the flesh and be naughty? What if God is in this? What implications does that have for your world, my friend?
By the way, excellent podcast. The comment about “Christian Kosher” stopped me in my tracks. I had to pause and exhale.
Just. Damn.
Preach it!
