Why is this News?
by: Rev. DanSMYRNA, Tenn. - Members of a church say God is punishing American soldiers for defending a country that harbors gays, and they brought their anti-gay message to the funerals Saturday of two Tennessee soldiers killed in Iraq.
Why is this news? Don’t most people understand that christians are generally intolerant of other people who don’t harbor their own personal vices (and are therefore prime candidates for stone-throwing?). Oh wait…
The Rev. Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist in Kansas, contends that American soldiers are being killed in Iraq as vengeance from God for protecting a country that harbors gays. The church, which is not affiliated with a larger denomination, is made up mostly of Phelps’ children, grandchildren and in-laws.
Oh that explains it… ole “crackhead” Rev. Fred “God Hates Fags” Phelps. This is the best part of the story, though…
The church members were met with scorn from local residents. They chased the church members cars’ down a highway, waving flags and screaming “God bless America.”
I guess everybody has God on their side.
Yeah, Phelps is pretty much the go-to guy for outrageous anti-gay nonsense (what else would you expect from the mind that brought us ‘godhatesfags.com’?). It’s the more pervasive, everyday misguided anti-gay rhetoric and actions inside the church that more directly impacts the lives of gays, both Christian and non.
