United Church of Christ Ad…

by: Rev. Dan

The United Church of Christ (of whom I’m personally ignorant and neither condone, condemn, nor endorse) has created an interesting TV ad which likely won’t get any airtime on any major network. They’re successfully getting “airtime” through online/viral marketing (obviously, that’s what’s happening right here) though, so who needs the major networks? :)

Church ads on television reminds me of the ads run by the Church of Scientology and the ads run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I’d think that the UCC would have that association working against them.

(I searched for said ads, yielding no results… if you find them, please post the links, thanks!)

In addition to the ad, they’re running an online petition to encourage ABC to include more religious diversity on the TV show “This Week”:

Over the years, Religious Right political leaders like Jerry Falwell, James Dobson and Pat Robertson have appeared on ABC’s This Week at the exclusion of other mainline religious voices. Tell ABC to stop catering to the Religious Right.

The data they’re citing is based on an interesting analysis by Media Matters for America titled “If It’s Sunday, It’s Conservative: An analysis of the Sunday talk show guests on ABC, CBS, and NBC, 1997 - 2005.”
