Son of the Son of Jesus Camp

by: Rev. Dan

Perhaps I should change the name of Outchurched to “See Jesus Camp.” I’ve been perhaps a bit too interested in this movie, but it looks absolutely fascinating and I just can’t wait to see it… only a coupla more days.

Bill Maher and panel discuss the Jesus Camp movie.

John Amato from Crooks and Liars posted an expanded review, including comments from an e-mail he’d received from someone named Matt.

The movie grabs you from the opening credits and keeps you there as the director lets Becky and the kids do the preaching. And preach they do. Fisher never misses an opportunity to find a toy or a phrase that she can use to trick the kids into submission. I cringed at every tear these children shed for sins they never committed. They screamed and talked in tongues–stretching their arms in the air–grasping at nothing–pledging their devotion to GOD. I wonder what sins a five year old could possibly have committed, and then sat stunned as Becky tells them that Harry Potter is evil. Fisher says that if Islamic extremists can train their kids then why can’t Evangelicals do the same? That’s a cheery thought. To the evangelical homeschooling moms that send their kids to Becky’s camp, global warming is a myth and science is a fraud to keep oneself separated from the Lord.

Variety has a video on their site of an interview with the filmmakers, both of whom are possibly destined to be my future ex-wives. I’m not prophesying, just sayin’. (/singing: “We’re on the road; We’re on the road to Zion…)

Even more Jesus Camp stuff is on the horizon (including a review after I’ve actually seen the movie). If you’re getting tired of hearing me blather on about it, well, sorry. I’ll return to the normal ranting thoughtful posts and commentary soon. ;)

Great dialog. It’s clear that some unbelievers can’t see the perspective of christians and that’s good becasue the christians they are discussing are whackjobs. How long will we let something so beautiful as faith in christ be ridiculed and mocked by these evangofundymatics? Freaks I tell you, freaks!
