Ad Asks: “Would Jesus Shop At Wal-Mart?”

by: Rev. Dan

From the AP, via AOL:

A new television ad by the union-backed group WakeUpWalMart.com features a pastor asking, “Would Jesus shop at Wal-Mart? Should you?”

Accompanying the ad, is a letter to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Chief Executive Officer Lee Scott that was signed by more than 130 clergy members. The letter asks Wal-Mart to provide a “higher standard for its employees and their families,” which the letter says would reflect “the best of Christian values.”

Wal-Mart spokesman Dave Tovar said the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union is backing negative attacks while Wal-Mart is creating jobs.

My question is: Why would Wal-Mart want to “reflect the best of Christian values”??
Is Wal-Mart a “christian” company, striving towards Christ-likeness?

Don’t get me wrong… I won’t shop at Wal-Mart. It’s made me uncomfortable ever since I started trying to be conscious about where I shop, etc. But, why would should the world be concerned with christian values?

Jesus and the disciples shopped at WalMart (which is how Jesus was able to so miraculously stretch their money), so it’s an absolute travesty that WalMart isn’t saying “Merry Christmas” or not saying “Merry Christmas” in accordance with the whim of modern Christendom.

For the record, I believe WalMart is a Christian company. The store attended a service at New Life Fellowship, became born again, and now professes Jesus Christ as its Lord and source of Savings. If a corporation is a legal entity which can make money, then I don’t see how or why it can’t join a religion.
