Are You Considering Becoming a Teacher? Here’s a Good Reason to Think Twice

by: Rev. Dan

Education is of primary importance in human life. If you can’t read or count then you’re basically unable to do anything beyond menial labor (nothin’ wrong with menial labor… it’s honest work). If you have no understanding of history, you’re doomed to repeat it.

The American public education system has gone to hell in a handbasket. Teachers are grossly underpaid and often struggle to get the basic materials they need for their students. People who choose to pursue a career in education work long and hard to get a crappy job so that they might be able to help kids by showing them a lot of possibilities that exist in the world, well beyond what one would see from their family or general community. For example, I’d have never learned crap about technology from my parents, who mocked me for wanting a computer when I was a lad, and it’s my knowledge of and love for technology that pays my bills.

Those who quite literally push up against and fight institutional stupidity for the purpose of educating and illuminating young minds deserve our commendation and praise… especially the ones who take innovative approaches to educate and motivate students. I can’t think of many jobs/careers that can have such a profoundly positive effect on humanity as teaching does.

However, if you’re considering becoming a teacher, you might want to reconsider. People with my mentality are rapidly dwindling, and it looks like it’s only going to get worse. An example of this can be seen in the case of this teacher, who was put on administrative leave and ultimately resigned because she was a Cheer and English teacher who committed an atrocious act in her class… she did a CHEER.

As a person who has not procreated, and who will never procreate (I refuse to bring another life into this fucked up place), I have no problem whatsoever paying for public education of other people’s children. However, if a teacher can be placed on administrative leave for something so remarkably trivial as doing a cheer routine (has anyone considered that she might have been trying to get kids to try out for cheer?!) yet scumbag history teachers can get away with proselytizing and verbally abusing children (”the Bible says Jews are going to Hell” / “the Bible teaches that homosexuality is a sin”) under the guise of protected First Amendment speech, then the public education system has some amazingly serious problems to contend with.

What the hell are the people who complain about a cheerleading teacher thinking?

“Hey, look… a teacher being interesting/engaging… let’s get her ass out of the classroom pronto… else our kids might learn something. All they need to know is ‘Jesus is the answer to all of life’s questions.’”

I’m so truly disgusted that I can’t see straight.

This was all the buzz in the teacher’s lunchroom. I’m so glad to hear someone think that this was a bit of a non-issue.

I could go on and on about hearing students complain about having to read their novel on a Wednesday night (”I have church and if that teacher is making me choose between Asher Lev and Jesus Christ…”) and other scary stories, but it isn’t necessary. Clearly, we’re worried about the wrong things. This parent not only allows their child to use their phone in class, but also encourages disrespect of a teacher and (saddest of all) teaches them to live devoid of a sense of humor. Geez Louise.

We’re struggling to produce well educated kids to enter an anti-intellectual society. Go team.
