This story about a teacher being arrested because she allowed her young students to name a teddy bear is outrageous by “Western standards” but seems very “normal” in terms of the way things go in an area ruled by religion. It’s a great example of why the Theocratic style of government that Evangelical Christianists have been pushing for is a terrible abomination towards mankind… and no, Christianity is no better than any other religion when it comes to religious horseshit and stupidity. The fact that we don’t have this sort of thing happen (very often) in the U.S. is that the United States was founded upon principles which divide religious and civil power. If America had truly been founded on “Christian Principles” (stone false prophets, kill your daughter if she’s been raped, etc.) then the Middle East would be looking at us and shaking their heads in amazement and smug superiority the way we currently do with them.

A British primary school teacher has been arrested in Sudan after allowing her pupils to name a Teddy bear after the Muslim prophet Muhammad.

Gillian Gibbons, who is 54 and from Liverpool in England, was arrested on Sunday for insulting the Prophet. Her colleagues at the Unity School said it was an ‘innocent mistake’ to allow the pupils, aged between six and seven, to use the name.

I’m very glad that I live in a country where religion can be shown the respect that it deserves: none.

The Unity School has now been closed as teachers fear reprisals, but the school’s director, Robert Boulos, said: “This is a very sensitive issue. We are very worried about her safety. This was a completely innocent mistake. Miss Gibbons would have never wanted to insult Islam.”

Naming a teddy bear “Muhammad” is justification for closing a school and whipping/jailing a teacher. Welcome to the world of Godly Ignorance. I wonder what would have happened if the teacher had allowed the kids to name the bear “Muhammad” and then used him in a cheer routine.

Before any American readers decide to feel smug or somehow superior to “these heathens” I think you should take a look at this good example of what your countrymen are all about:
